State funerals are given to people who have done an extraordinary service to their country. This mostly includes politicians, former presidents and national heroes.

William Henry Harrison

An experienced military officer wise politician and the 9th president of USA, William Henry Harrison Sr. died of typhoid just 31 days into his presidential term and became the first person to be given a state funeral.

Zachary Taylor

Zachary Taylor is known for his heroics in the Mexican-American war. Zachary Taylor became the 12th president of the USA in March 1849, and served the country till his death in July 1850.

Abraham Lincoln

Known for leading the nation during its bloodiest war. Abraham Lincoln was elected as the 16th president of the country in 1861, and served till his assassination in 1865.

Thaddeus Stevens
