It causes dry, itchy, and reddened skin. Few factors like exposure to the extreme heat and cold conditions, spicy food, alcohol consumption, and some medicines, cosmetics, steroids are said to trigger rosacea.

Rosacea: an Overview

There are five subtypes of rosacea. Erythematotelangiectatic rosacea is the most commonly observed form of rosacea. It develops with papulopustular rosacea, which is similar to acne. It is a less serious form of rosacea.
Phymatous rosacea causes thickening of the skin. Skin gets affected permanently, if it is not treated on time. Ocular rosacea is advanced, and more severe form of rosacea. It usually affects the eyes, and can cause impaired vision, if it remains untreated. Some antibiotics (both topical and oral), shampoos, steroids can cause steroid-induced rosacea.
Rosacea is a chronic, progressive condition; therefore, it needs to be treated as early as possible. However, any medication should be taken after the consultation with your skin specialist. There are several, natural or alternative rosacea treatments that are used to reduce the severity of the symptoms.
According to dermatologists, serums, moisturizers, eye creams, and facial gels having vitamin K are known to be effective in minimizing the intensity of rosacea. Treatments for rosacea, like laser treatment, can be very expensive.
Rosacea is known to be a hereditary condition, and Europeans as well as people of Celtic descent have a higher genetic tendency to developing it. The occurrence of rosacea is about three times more in women than it is in men. The easily noticeable symptoms of rosacea disease include swollen skin, visible broken blood vessels, flushing and redness in the center of the face, burning sensation in the skin, etc.
A person with rosacea may try to avoid public contact. This chronic disease can lead to frustration and embarrassment. However, there are many celebrities who have been living with this disease (or who lived with the condition), and have learned to deal with it.
